The overall goal of this laboratory core
facility is to strengthen its infrastructure (human and physical resources)
to continue providing specialized clinical laboratory support to UCC
researchers in the areas of immunology and infectious diseases associates
with HIV / AIDS (sexually transmitted diseases, hepatitis, mycobacterium
etc.). In the future this unit would be able to provide the research
community with: a) standardized methodology for the rapid detection,
identification and quantification of HIV infection; b) standardized
methodology for the characterization of sexually transmitted diseases, viral
hepatitis and mycobacteria; |

c) immunological services and expertise
in the analysis and delineation of lymphocyte populations; d) facility for
the determination of cytokines, chemokines and proliferative response; e)
facility to continue a repository of lymphocyte, plasma and serum from
HIV-infected individuals registered in the Data Core; f) anti-retroviral
drug susceptibility genotyping pattern in the HIV-infected population, and;
g) an organized clinical laboratory support to the Data Core Facility and
individual pilot projects. |
