The
Universidad Central del Caribe Animal Resources Center is located at the
basement of the Basic Science Building. It provides housing for small and
large animals. In addition, it is equipped with specialized areas for the
following services: rooms for specific uses such as quarantine, necropsy,
stock and treatment room, clean cage, bedding, diet, cage washing, food and
storage. |

The Animal Resources Center (ARC) is under the administration of
the President of the University. The personnel of the unit consist of a
supervisor, a part-time consultant veterinarian, and one full-time and one
part-time animal caretaker. Basically, the major functions of the ARC is to
provide information concerning 1) purchasing, basic husbandry, quarantine,
veterinary medical care of laboratory animals used in research, 2) provide
technical assistance, advice and consultation dealing with animal species
used for investigation, 3) support the research programs by making readily
available animal, materials and animal husbandry supplies. |
